Our Story and Mission

Torpoint Archives & Heritage Centre is a       registered charity

No: 1043850

and is run entirely by a     dedicated team of volunteers.

It was established to   collect, preserve, and make accessible the town’s historical records and artefacts. We serve as custodians of the community’s cultural  heritage, ensuring that the history and stories of Torpoint’s citizens are protected for education, remembrance, and future generations.

The Torpoint Archives was founded in 1994 by two residents, Pat and Freda Manning, who were passionate about the local history of our town.

They began a continuing effort to gather as many  documents, photographs and artefacts as possible relating to Torpoint and the local area.

The Mannings were fortunate in acquiring a large volume of research done by local historian, Jack Kingston, and soon other material donated by enthusiastic Torpointers came into their possession.

Initially housed in the Council Chambers on Buller Road, the growing collection moved to the town Library in 2019, becoming the Torpoint Archives and Heritage Centre (TAHC)

We are honoured to have Tremayne Carew-Pole as the President of our charity
